DESCRIPTION:
APW - Elgin, rare B W Raymond grade 544, US Army AC, sweep seconds 24-hour GCT with winding indicator, 16S, CPBM OF original case with full contract markings on back, SW-SS, WED, fully capped lever escapement with antimagnetic HS, 22J (marked 21J, upgraded to sweep adding one jewel on sweep bridge), ribbed pattern NI damascene, s#39516430. A rare US Army Air Corps watch; total production of grade 544 was only 200, all produced in a single run in 1940.
CONDITION:
Mvt: GRO, mint mvt condition overall; dial perfect; hands mint; case shows very light wear, profuse MFS, many scratches and gouges to back and band, apparently from some attempt to open the screwed-back with a knife, no dents, a few other band dings, legible contract detail; bow tight, crown shows very light wear; good glass crystal.
